The Skimcast mobile app allows you to skim documents from other apps on your device simply by sharing them with Skimcast. Several popular document formats are supported and supported files can be shared with Skimcast from any app that has the “Share” or “Open in” feature.
When you select the “Share” or “Open in” option in a given app, you will see a box containing a list of the apps installed on your device that are ready to receive your document. If you see Skimcast in the list, then touching the Skimcast icon will share your document with Skimcast.
Before you can share a document with Skimcast (or open a document in Skimcast), you may need to add the Skimcast app to this list. Depending on your device, Skimcast may not be turned on as an app that can receive a shared file.
To enable Skimcast for document sharing on iOS, choose the “Share” or “Open in” option in some app to request to share a file. When you see the list of apps, scroll to the end of the list. You should see the word “More” with three dots.
Touch “More”. You will see a new window with a vertical list of apps. Below each app name there is a switch that you can turn on (making it green) or off (making it white).
If the switch for Skimcast is turned off, then touch the switch to turn it on. The color of the switch should change to green.
Move Skimcast higher on the share list
By default, Skimcast may appear near the end of your device’s share list. You can move Skimcast up this list easily. The higher Skimcast is on the list, the more convenient it will be to choose Skimcast when you want to share a document.
To move Skimcast up the list, touch and hold the icon of the 3 horizontal lines to the right of the Skimcast name. While holding the icon, slide your finger up the list. You should see the entry for Skimcast moving with your finger.
